Old Bowling Green, ? Military building; Whitehaven Coast
20th Century building, possibly mapped on 3rd OS, but identification with mapped structure uncertain. Small outhouse in grounds of Jonathan Swifts House. Brick-built, with thin concrete slab roof, doorway to E. c 6 x 3m, x 2m high. Reported by owner as magazine for Bowling Green Battery (NTSMR 29062), but clearly more recent than this; construction indicates a 20th Century date and may suggest a WW1 or WW2 military origin (or merely construction by builders trained in 20th Century colliery building methods). Possibly related to claimed presence of guns at adjacent Sea Brows Battery to c 1918. Within privately-occupied grounds of Jonathan Swifts House; rapid inspection by invitation of owner.
