A Roman building interpreted as a seamans lodging house was found near the south gate of Caister. Finds included coins of mid 4th century date, seven small hoards, wattle and daub, pottery, glass, part of a pewter plate and grain. A hypocaust, near to which was a water tank was also found.

Surface finds of roof slates, tesserae and pottery indicated the site of a Roman building, possibly a villa. Evaluation in 2002 comprising geophysical survey and trial trenching revealed a large 4th century mosaic belonging to a more extensive courtyard villa.

Roman finds in Bowood Park indicate the presence of a building, possibly a villa. A tesselated pavement plus six skeletons, ashes, charcoal and potsherds were found by labourers levelling the ground in circa 1779. Roman coins are also believed to have been found in the vicinity. However, t...
