A Neolithic stone axe was found in the summer of 1909 near to Bolton Chapel while digging a drain close to some hitherto unnoticed earthworks. The axe is now in Barrow In Furness Museum. The earthworks, now almost completely ploughed flat, appear to have been old field banks.
