An urn containing a hoard of 230 Roman silver (republican and imperial) coins was found at Priors Wood, Kimpton in May 1851 by workmen widening a road. J. Evans described 20 of them that ranged from Valeria (104 BC) to Tiberius (2 BC-35 AD). An early 1st century hoard.

Excavations uncovered a 4th century settlement site with evidence for a timber framed building , iron working debris and a ditch. Finds included tiles, a quern, pottery, nails and iron objects. Most of the site lay in the path of the M11 motorway.
