GLOUCESTER GAOL

The gatehouse at Gloucester Gaol is the main building surviving from Blackburns original prison. It was built in the 1780s, and in 1844-8 two large wings, on the model of Pentonville, were added. At the same time its height was raised from 2 to 3 stories.
