Site of Medieval manor of Gaynes, which was the largest of pre-conquest origin in Upminster. In 1752, the farmhouse was replaced by a new mansion, which was demolished before 1856. A smaller house was built in 1846, but was demolished in 1929, at the sale of the park.

Late 16th/early 17th century manor house of the Cotton family, demolished circa 1860. A house dated 1905 stands in the grounds of the earlier house. It is tower-like, being a three storey, one-bay house, and was probably built with material from the demolished manor house.
