CHEADLE RAILWAY

The Cheadle Railway, the 4-mile long line from Creswell on the Derby line to Cheadle. Authorised in 1880, it was only completed in 1900, the problem being a tunnel under an unstable ridge. It was troublesome until replaced by a line around the ridge in 1933. Still partly in use.

CUDWORTH AND BARNSLEY RAILWAY

The Cudworth and Barnsley Branch Railway opened in 1869 and closed to passenger traffic in 1959-1960. The line has been dismantled except for a short section remaining open for mineral traffic between Cudworth North Junction and West Green.

BURTON AND SWADLINCOTE BRANCH RAILWAY
