REDCLIFF BATTERY

Redcliff battery was a 4-gun coastal battery built between 1861-3. It was noted as almost entirely destroyed by coast erosion in 1903, and the landward ditch was filled in. A few remains of its emplacements are still visible on the cliffs.

The Delph Railway opened as a rail motor service between Greenfield and Delph in 1851, perhaps worked initially by horse/donkey, but certainly steam-powered by 1856. The line closed in 1963.

LITTLEWORTH TRAMWAY

The Littleworth Tramway belonged to and served the Birmingham Canal. It had been projected under the Cannock Extension Canal Act of 1854, and was constructed by the LNWR, probably opening in 1863. It became part of the Cannock Chase railway system, closing in the 1960s.
